Baby onesies? Hi...I live in FL (where it's hot all the time!) and I'm wondering if I can take my 8 month old daughter out in just a onesie / bodysuit? I've got v. cute and dressy ones from Gymboree / Gap but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to take her out to the park or to daycare in just a onesie...
Thanks!
Thanks everyone! Appreciate your answers!! maryjane1298 replied: "definitely, I would bring something in case since everything here is AC, but a onesie is totally fine."
country212531gal replied: "It's just fine just make sure you put sunblock on her."
hotmomma replied: "Sure. I take my son out in those. He was so skinny that none of his shorts fit him. He is just a baby, it doesn't really matter."
♥ LovingMyLittle1 replied: "hehe, why not?"
lisamarie7901 replied: "sure you can atleast until the baby is one"
itgurl79 replied: "Are you kidding me??!?! Of course you can take her out in a onsie! My twins lived this whole summer in cute onsies. They are easy and most importantly cool. Go ahead and take her."
Anon replied: "i live in Arizona, it is really hot here. It is definatelty ok to just wear a onesie. They make very cute ones."
kleja36 replied: "Yes, I think it is just fine to take her out in just a onesie. I did the same thing with my kids when they were that small."
Tanya replied: "Sure is.
I did it all the time... but my daughter was pretty bald, so I at least got the gerber onesies that were pink!!"
BraxOwl replied: "I personally do not see anything wrong with it. As long as she is comfortable, that is all that matters! And chubby baby thighs are so cute, so let her show them off!"
OnThisPage replied: "my son lives in his onesis in the heat. they are fashionable and comfortable and i wanna thank whoever invented them."
MotherTeresa replied: "i'm not so sure if i would take her to daycare like that but the park and shopping is absolutely fine. lets face it it's hot and no one wants to be all sweaty least of all a baby. good luck"
dawnjohnson_4 replied: "Yes that is fine. My daughter is 8 weeks old and I keep her in onesies and socks during the day."
ashbaby469556 replied: "OH yea...she is a baby it is fine! My son wears onesies ALL the time. Just about everyday I think since he started crawling. They are just much more comfortable and easy to move around in (besides they are cute!). I say go for it."
appleluver25 replied: "I live in Jax and I take my 9 month old daughter out in onsies but I always pack a pair of pants that go with her outfit and sockies just in case she gets cold somewhere. I use sunblock on her and I always use the shade on her carrier or stroller to help keep the sun off of her. To daycare, most kids love onsies.....they can move around freely without getting their legs pinned inside their pants when they are moving around. At the park I let her wear them too, as long as you have sunblock on her to help protect."
Michaela replied: "My 6 month old has pretty much lived in onesies this summer. In my opinion they are perfectly fine, I mean they are babies of course they need to be comfy. Sometimes I put shorts on with the onesie but I think onesies are super cute on babies."
mummiefroggie replied: "of course it is, i livin ontario canada and i took each of my kids out in onesies during the summer, no one really cares what a baby is wearing."
yankeeschica2003 replied: "we live in TX & I take my daughter everywhere in just a onesie (usually w/ socks) its too hot to pile on all kinds of clothes on her"
desiderio replied: "Go for it. I get squirmy about a baby going out in just a t-shirt and diaper, but a onesie, especially a cute one, is all go. I took my daughter out in just a cutesie onesie when it was hot here.
Carter's also makes some "dresses" that are essentially a dress front sewn onto a onesie."
The Morg replied: "I don't see why not.
You can take her to the park or any other public place and it does not matter how she is dressed.
Daycare is another story. It should be ok, but if you are concerned I would ask the daycare just to be on the safe side. Or you can just pack a pair of shorts along with an extra onesie and T-shirt in her daycare bag and if the daycare wants to add the shorts or change her they can. You should be providing an extra outfit to the daycare anyway so nothing to worry about there.
I have actually seen babies in just a T-shirt and diaper around town but I don't think the daycare would let you get away with that.
My original short answer still stands: Sure, why not.
But I would ask your daycare provider not only about the onesie but also ask them if there is anything else against their dress code. They may not allow other things you don't even think of (like jackets with drawstrings, can be a choking hazard and children wearing drawstring items need to be watched closer).
You might be surprised at what they come up with.
Also, some daycares may not allow you to bring a child without shoes. Others don't care. If the child is not walking and has on socks they think that is fine until walking age and then require shoes. This is something we don't think of because we just throw socks on them and run out the door."
angela b replied: "i take my four month old out in a onesie and it gets about hundred degrees where i live Az"
Brian A replied: "If the cops catch you doing that you will definitely be hauled off to jail and your daughter will end up in foster care. At the minimum she also needs some frilly socks or a headband."
Rosey55 D replied: "Why not. I don't see anything wrong with it. I used to do that all the time. Just be careful about your baby getting sunburned."
Diana G replied: "I live in FL too and of course you can my daughter is 2 months old and shes usually in onesis..its so hot outside and regardless they look cute in pretty much anything..hehe" What is the name of the straps you can put on baby onesies to make them last longer? The ones that can help them still fit as the baby gets bigger. I want to order some but can't remember what they are called. k w replied: "baby garment extenders"
Piper's Mommy replied: "I've never heard of them, but I don't think it would save you much money. We buy the 5 pack of Gerber onesies for 9 bucks, so that's pretty cheap. 0-3 month lasted until recently and she's 4.5 months old. I really don't think they'd be too good of an investment."
Victory replied: "Onesie extenders:

Ray replied: "I found these. I don't know if they sell them in stores, I've never seen them anywhere else but online.

Momuvtwinboyzn1babygirl replied: "onesie extenders-they have them on ebay" Where to get cheap funny baby onesies ONLINE? I posted this add the other day and I forgot to put "online." ArmyWife08 replied: "You should google it, you can usually find online stores that way. Or go to Target.com or oldnavy.com....places like that."
emmy_nicole27 replied: "I would google it, so just put it what type of onesies you are looking for and im sure they will route you to a place where you can buy them online."
milk making mama #2 due Aug 12th replied: "http://shop.cafepress.com/onsies
Cafepress.com has a ton of onsies and they usually start at $12.50. My faves are the breast feeding support ones!" Why do baby onesies (baby shirts) have criss-cross shoulders??? What is the purpose of that?? I'm just wondering why they make them this way - i put them on my baby girl and the shoulders look uncomfortable to me -why do they do that -what is the criss-crossing all about -is it really neccessary ?? Seems kinda pointless to me -What do you think?? Naar replied: "because baby bone very tender"
ray replied: "A baby's head is bigger in proportion to its body compared to an adult's head. If an adult had a head that big compared to their body, they would need the same type of shirt. Its easier to get on and off the baby."
hurricane camille replied: "The criss-cross design is used to try to keep the shoulders of the onesie up on the baby. The head opening has to be rather large (babies have a proportionally large head). It is just a little trick to try to compensate for the large head opening, so that the shoulders of the shirt are not drooping off every other minute."
professional_mother replied: "Not all of them do, but yes, many of them do. It's because a baby's head is so much larger relative to body size than a child or adult. It takes extra space to get the shirt or onesie over the head. Some clothes have a snap shoulder instead. By the time you get to larger toddler sizes or above, a lot of the T-shirts just have a regular neckline."
bee replied: "It is so you can get your baby's head through!"
alfjr24 replied: "it makes it easier to get it over their large heads, but still covers their sholders. that's why they criss cross. there's even some with buttons, or snaps you can get."
- Tabi - replied: "In order for a baby to pass through the birth canal the babies head must be larger than the rest of it's body including the width of the shoulders. This is to prevent the baby from getting stuck and it's just a natural occurance. The baby's body then plays a game of catch up over the next couple of years. The criss-cross shirts (as you described them) are to help get the baby's larger head into the outfit comfortably without having such a large neckline. It's not necessary, as some outfits use snap buttons on one of the shoulders or down the back for a wider opening for the head to pass through, but the criss-cross style is also more convenient than the buttons. :)" I am Searching for naughty baby onesies? I went on tshirthell.com, but did not find anything great. I am looking for funny/shocking baby t-shirts or onesies. gerlawgoody1 replied: "If you have a Walgreen's drug store near you, go there, they have hilarious shirts for babies!" where is a store in nyc that has funny baby onesies? ya know.. ones that have curses on them and sarcastic sayings...
i know there are tons online but there has to be a store in nyc that has them too....right?
thanks so much!! AntiSocial replied: "You can try JC Penny. I don't know if some of the sayings are what you're looking for. One of the onesies I saw said, "If you think I'm hot, you should see my mom!"
My sister got me one from wal-mart that says, "Party at my crib!" I actually like that one." looking for a name for a baby web will sell baby onesies & tees up to 3-4t ? The baby clothing will have little birds dancing and flying, it is a mexican traditional song..."pajaritos a volar" but I want to attract all kinds of customers ☆Mum to Alissa replied: "Some thing broad that will come up in any search engine like -
